TalkingTree  Video Archive of ColdFusion Birthday Party with Founders Panel Discussion

Watch the video of Macromedia's ColdFusion birthday party event held in the Newton, MA office yesterday, July 13 2005. The founders of ColdFusion, which was almost known as Prometheus or Horizon, recant the early days of Allaire Corporation. JJ Allaire, Charles Teague, and Sim Simeonov

Here's annotation for the video:

  • 13:28 Tim Buntel quotes letter from CF Developer Tom Chambers
  • 14:45 Ben Forta tells how he first arrived at ColdFusion
  • (I removed camera from tripod for better view, so gets a little shakey, but calms down)
  • 17:45 JJ Allaire joins the stage
  • 25:00 Tim quotes letter from CF Developer Ben Wakeman, "How ColdFusion Saved Me From the Gutter"
  • 27:25 Tim introduces the first Allaire employee, Charles Teague
  • 35:30 Tim quotes letter from Brandon Purcell, Macromedia Tech Support
  • 37:00 Tim introduces Sim Simeonov, Chief Architect at Allaire, who met JJ at Macalester College
  • 46:10 Tim asks if they can remember the first customers or notable experiences while working for Allaire
  • 50:50 Tim introduces Adam Berry, who recalls sleeping on Jeremy's couch and not getting paid.
  • 57:20 Question to JJ about the origin of the name "ColdFusion", including "webdb", "horizon", "prometheus". The logo fist and bolt was designed for the name Prometheus.
  • 59:30 Sim discusses the motivations for rebuilding ColdFusion from C++ to Java
  • 1:03:35 Camera pans around the room, followed by closeup of the birthday cake
  • 1:04:35 Video of Mega-Developer satire that played at one of the early Allaire Devcons.

  • 1:17:15 Tim introduces Jeremy Allaire. Jeremy recalls starting as a web developer in 1994.
  • 1:20:15 Tim tells story of Devcon 2001 in Orlando, and how one Engineer got shanghaied with the girl from Playboy in a hot tub.
  • 1:22:20 The panel gathers round to cut the ColdFusion birthday cake

"How ColdFusion Save Me from the Gutter" was authored by Ben Wakeman, who was with us last night at the Atlanta ColdFusion User Group party. :)

Fixed. Thanks
