TalkingTree  Installing ColdFusion MX 7.01 Server Configuration on Mac OS X

I've put together a collection of screen shots to walk you through the new GUI installer for ColdFusion 7.01 for Mac OS X. Previously one had to perform several tedious prerequisite installations, but now CFMX is available in a clickable, user friendly installer.

Screenshots of CFMX 7.01 Installation on Mac OS X

For the first time, the System Requirements page lists support for production use of Apple Mac OS X 10.3.9, 10.4.2 and 10.4.3. Previously, the sysreqs had a footnote for for Mac to indicate support was development only.

Some versions of Windows now bear the Development Only footnote, including Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP.

For convenience in starting and stopping the server as well as using the web server config tool, check out the ColdFusionLauncher.app.

Maybe it is just me, but my Mac mini can't unzip the file. It stalls about halfway through. I tried upzipping it on my Thinkpad as well, with the same results.

At first I was using the unzip utility from the commandline, which momentarily stalled but eventually produced a .app file. Double clicking on that file failed to launch the installer after many tries. I deleted the .app file and then just double clicked the original zip file. That also produced a .app file but this time it had a blue icon next to it in Finder. I double clicked the .app file and the installer launched.

Does this help?

Hey
Just wanted to say thanks. I had downloaded Coldfusion from Macromedia, but just downloading and wasn't enough--you need to know what else is needed.
I first I had never use Apache, didn't have JRUN.
I read thru "Installing ColdFusion MX 7.01 Server Configuration on Mac OS X" it was a MAJOR help.

On the Verity K2 Server information page (http://www.talkingtree.com/gallery/stuff/cfmx701/m...) you mentioned that a standalone Verity server could be installed. Do you know if this is only an option for customers with the Enterprise flavor of CFMX7? When I went to the linked page and pasted in my serial number, I only had the option to download the extra language packs.

Am I missing something?

The Macromedia website is not very clear regarding exactly which download is external Verity install kit. You were viewing the right page, http://www.macromedia.com/go/verity but after submitting your SN the page appears, at first glance, to only provide the Language Packs for support of different character sets. However, the OS-specific links at the bottom under the header "Verity Search Pack Installers for ColdFusion MX 7" are in fact the external Verity installation kit.

Thanks Steven.

I might try the standalone Verity software at some point, but after considering the amount of effort that I might need to spend on getting that working, I reconsidered.

Instead, I worked on my CFMX + Lucene project that I had put off for a while. Right now I've got it capable enough to work, but not perfect. I still want to enable the weighted fields and multi-field queries, and such.

When it's cleaned up a bit, I'll make it available to the community. I'm hoping it will be useful to other folks.

As promised, here's a link to my work on using Lucene within ColdFusion:
http://www.cflucene.org

I did some Googling and didn't see anybody else actively working on this sort of thing, so I figured, "what the heck, I create a new project."

Joseph, thank you for sharing the information on http://www.cflucene.org/ . The only other person I know of writing writing about Lucene was Aaron Johnson, more info on that here: http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm/2005/5/2...

Thank you Steven for ending my days of frustration. I don't think I knew how to pose the question properly re: how to get Apache on Mac to recognize and execute .cfm files. I found how to do it with Terminal for PHP on MM's site which worked for PHP and MySQL. Walking through your screen shots did the trick. So thanks again.

BTW: If you need to install PHP and/or MySQL on the Mac OS X, and get a good tutorial on using Terminal to do this, go to Minh Huynh's article at: http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/dreamweaver/artic...

Does this process also work with Intel Macs?

Adobe does not support ColdFusion on Mac/Intel at this time. Some bloggers have documented the issues they've encountered, so check out blogs of David Fekke, Ray Camden, and Mark Drew.

I tried installing Cold Fusion MX 7 on my mac OS 10.4.8. Everything went well up until the configuration and settings migration wizard. I entered my admin password and then briefly saw a screen saying configuring server, please wait, then I got a JRun servlet error 500 null. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
