TalkingTree  My First Photo Contest, A Main Street Point of View

The Concord Museum called me this week to let me know that I won the photo contest for A Main Street Point of View. This weekend I visited the museum's Brooke Hall to see my photos on display, where they will remain for the duration of the museum's exhibit of the same name as the contest. My prize was a gift certificate to Anderson Photo, the cosponsor of the contest, along with a few museum passes to give out. Here's a litte more background about the contest.

There were only nine photographers contributing to the show, but it was my first photo contest so I'm very proud anyway.

Boston Globe article on the museums exhibit:

It's not revolutionary, just a seldom-seen side of Concord's history

Congrats! I think the photo's are great they give me that Norman Rockwell feeling.

and why am i not surprised :)

big ups brah! congratamalations!

maybe i have asked this before, but what type of camera do you have?
im thinking about another one... my sony dsc-s85 just aint cuttin' it no mo'
i want good low-light and flourescent, and of course outdoor shots... as well
as single lens reflex capabilities (which mine has, just had some testy lighting
settings)

Thanks guys.

Tony, I use a Canon 20D with a 4 different lenses. Mostly I use the kit Canon 18-55mm which ships with the camera and the Sigma 10-22mm ultra wide angle. Sigma lenses are about 1/2-1/4 less than Canon lenses, and generally just as good. This month's popular photography ranked the Sigma 10-22mm the best choice among three ultrawides. I'm considering a Sigma 50-500mm for $950 because the 75-300 is great, but I want that extra length to some wildlife photography.

I recently joined the Boston Photography Meetup group, which is very active, and they have frequent gatherings where they get together for photo shoots, and they share information for getting started in with showing in galleries and selling work.

I look forward to the spring and summer for a lot of good photo opportunities. This time of year is so bland with no snow and no leaves. Just brown everywhere.

Forgot to mention that Canon just released the 30D, which is an upgrade to the 20D and actually cost less. It should be coming out soon. The 20D is really fantastic. I recommend learning to use the camera's features with the video course from Blue Crane Digital and learning to use Photoshop with TotalTraining DVD video courses.
