Today is the 100th episode of the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group, a.k.a. CFMeetup, with Adobe speaker Josh Adams on the topic of ColdFusion as the ideal server-side data provider for iPhone applications. The meeting starts online at 12p ET; find out more here.
This special anniversary of the CFMeetup is made possible by Charlie Arehart, a tireless champion of the ColdFusion Community, who has worked very hard for several years now to improve the organization and execution of meetings and has strived to provide a consistent speaker lineup that give contemporary, meaningful presentations on ColdFusion related topics.
As the founder of ColdFusion Meetup, I'm honored to attend today's anniversary event. In 2004, Macromedia provided employees with unlimited Breeze Meeting accounts (now Adobe Connect) after it acquired Presidia, the original makers of the Flash based meeting software. As Breeze became widely used in Macromedia for internal company meetings, it occurred to me that I could make good use of my unlimited account by starting an online presentation series for the ColdFusion community of developers, and so I formed the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group. The first meeting was February 2005 where I convinced several members of the ColdFusion engineering team to take questions about the release of ColdFusion MX 7 from online guests. Participation grew as I attracted speakers on a monthly basis, and it became a consistent series that ran throughout the year. Later, as I moved from ColdFusion Support to the ColdFusion Engineering team working on Scorpio (CF8), Charlie happily took over the reigns to keep the momentum going... and how has he!
Prizes Now that I'm a software engineer at Webapper Services providing enterprise level ColdFusion consulting, among the special prize giveaways at today's CFMeetup, Webapper will be giving away a 2-server Enterprise license for SeeFusion - retail value of $600! SeeFusion is a utility for monitoring and troubleshooting ColdFusion application servers. SeeFusion gives you the ability to "see" how your ColdFusion servers are processing requests in real time.
See you today at CFMeetup!

As a vibrant, active online Community of ColdFusion developers who largely interact online only, lets get together at Adobe MAX in Vegas to chat and network in person.
Members of the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group can meet at the MAX Community Lounge. If you're not already a member then join us! We could either have a free form networking meeting, or better yet, I'm thinking that we could do a type of speed-networking type of meeting where we'll seat people in two rows (or something similar) and each pair of people will talk for 5 minutes and then we'll all shift seats by one position to speak for 5 minutes with the next person, and so on.
I first saw this speed-networking idea on Alan Williamson's blog entry Do We Still Need Conferences? where Stephen Moretti linked to this site that contains a Google video of how it works: http://www.dott07.com/go/dott-blog

If you missed tonight's Online ColdFusion Meetup Group event, you can still catch all the lessons and demos from Rob in the archived Breeze Meeting recording. Rob tailored his AJAX presentation to compare related technologies or libraries including Spry, dojo, Flex, Flash, and more, and provided copious demos and a thorough background.

Look for new event listings soon. Booked for October we have Charlie Arehart on Fusion-Debug and Adobe's new ColdFusion Evangelist Adam Wayne Lehman on ColdFusion Security Best Practices. I'll be posting those event schedules tomorrow.

Welcome Back ColdFusion Enthusiasts!
The summer is winding down, and most everyone has returned from vacations, so the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group is getting fired back up. To kick off the first online event this fall, Rob Gonda will present on AJAX, in the context of ColdFusion applications.
If you have ideas for topics or speakers you'd like to see, please contact me to let me know. Nate Nelson is preparing a couple talks on Advanced SQL, so look for those in the near future, too.
Thanks! Steven Erat Organizer, OCFMG

The combined meeting of the Boston CFUG and the Online CFUG was a fantastic success due to the brilliant demonstration of FarCry CMS from Daemon, presented by Breeze UberGuru Geoff Bowers.
FarCry CMS is Daemon's flagship offering, an intuitive and extensible Content Management System that puts "controlled power" into the hands of the people who own your site content. FarCry is a cutting edge ColdFusion MX application framework for web based content management that blends the very best of open source development with commercial backing and support.
In Boston there were approximately 16 local members attending at the Adobe office, and 55 online members from Norway to Hawaii and then some. The newly announced ColdFusion Product Manager, Jason Delmore, was generous to stop by to introduce himself to the group and stay around for the event.

As the organizer of the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group I'd like help spread the word that CFUNITED's Michael Smith and I have been sponsoring online previews of the topics which will be presented in full at the conference. These previews cover ColdFusion development as well as related web technologies. Moreover, the CFLive! talks are given by the original speaker for the topic, and they are intended to provide a summary and flavor of the subject matter so that you can decide if you'd like to add it to your conference schedule to hear the full session.
These talks are about 1/2 hour including time for Q&A, usually Thursdays at noon US/Eastern time. (Timezone Help)
The url for the Breeze meeting is listed in the MORE INFORMATION section of the RSVP page. In the Breeze Meeting, just click the button to login as GUEST with no password but enter your name when prompted, and then you'll join the meeting from your browser.
If you've never used Breeze, get a quick overview.

Simon Horwith provided an overview of the talks and activities that he will conduct at this year's CFUNITED ColdFusion Conference. This talk was the first in a series called CFLIVE!, where upcoming speakers will provide a sneak-peek of what they'll be doing at the conference. If you'd like to be notified of and join upcoming CFUNITED previews, sign up for the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group (the largest CFUG). For Simon's Breeze presentation today, the archived recording is available below.

Simon experienced a problem with his USB microphone, so as a last minute hack that I've used before, Simon called me and I put the speaker phone next to my microphone and then we were good to go.
Coming up in a couple weeks... Ray Camden.

Once again Doug Hughes pulled off a great presentation for the members of the Online ColdFusion Meetup Group with today's topic Reactor. Doug's Reactor project is a new persistence framework he has been working on. It is an Inline Dynamic Database Abstraction Generator. What this means is that by using Reactor you can dynamically generate database objects on the fly in your code as needed. Additionally, these objects will be rewritten as your database changes. Reactor is simple, quick and powerful.
The event was recorded and is available for viewing at the link below so feel free to watch!

One lucky member at today's event won a FREE copy of ColdFusion MX 7 Standard Edition!
If you have a ColdFusion related topic or product that you'd like to share with the developer community, let me know and I'll work with you to hold your own Breeze Meeting. I'm looking for speakers for the next few months, so don't be shy :)
