Geocities Guestbook - Recovered (August 5, 2005 1:38 PM)

Before this blog on, and before at all, I began a homepage with Geocities back in 1994, my first experience with homepage wizards or any kind of content management. Soon after getting hooked on HTML, I began building a laberynth of photo galleries and personal information, and after a couple of years I had managed to hack together some form of a Guestbook form on my own. Well, I know that Guestbooks are so 90's, but nevertheless I've rescued my Geocities Guestbook off...

[steven@macromedia /work]$ shutdown -h +360 'Going on sabbatical. Please log off' (July 29, 2005 7:34 AM)

...f read (or viewed) starting with Wells and finishing with Friedman. If I find a day to spare, I think I'll finally sit myself down to watch the whole 8 hour series Cosmos, by Carl Sagan.During the second half of my sabbatical, I'll be in Barcelona, Spain and then in the high Pyrenees. My wife and I were married in a civil ceremony two years ago and now we will be having a formal ceremony in a 12th century church in a small mountain village near the border with France, close to Pico Aneto, the high...

Movie Meme (June 18, 2005 11:15 PM)

Taking a clue from Leslee, here's my own take on the Movie Meme...Total number of films I own on DVD and video: Looking at the two bookshelves on either side of the living room TV, Id say there must be over 200 DVDs right there. This includes perhaps 100 movies from the states, and 50 foreign films including mostly Almodovar and Amenabar films, but theres the odd French films in there too including almost all of the Audrey Tautou films and an old favorite Betty Blue. The other 50 DVDs are of the ed...

Spanish Film Recommendations (June 15, 2005 6:08 PM)

Preparing to pass the Movie Meme, here's a rehashed, repost of my rather lengthy comments to the 3rd House Party Movie Meme blog entry....This reads almost exactly like a list of my own DVD collection. I'll buy anything directed by Pedro Almodovar or Alejandro Amen·bar, or starring Gael GarcÌa Bernal or Javier Bardem. Concord isn't all that far from Grafton, so maybe we can swap sometime :) Gael GarcÌa Bernal is really emerging as one of the best Mexican actors, with credits including The Motorcy...

Sys-con's Robert Diamond is very accommodating (June 10, 2005 9:53 AM)

...ooth things out, and he asked for a photo that I would approve of to be used in lieu of said crappy photo. Nice guy! Thanks Robert!I made the recommendation that they only pick up my ColdFusion RSS feed since that is what's relevant on MXDJ, not my Spain photos, rants, or biology blogs, and I even whipped up my own graphic to replace said crappy photo. Voila! I love Adobe Photoshop :-) I made this from a photo of me standing on Sentinel Bridge in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire. Although, I woul...

The Best of Concord Police Logs (April 23, 2005 6:09 AM)

I love reading the crazy things that happen around the sleepy town of Concord, as reported in the weeekly Police Logs from the Concord Journal. I've lived in a lot of places, some where most people wouldn't bat an eye if a carjacking were happening, but here in Concord the residents are easily spooked... Enjoy!I'm proud to claim my own place in the town's log. Here's the what ended up in the newspaper when I was spotted taking pictures in the early morning hours:Sunday, Oct. 16 2005 At 1:23 a.m., o...

Roses are red, blogs are blue (February 14, 2005 10:24 AM)

...Valentine's Day gift, I spent this weekend building a new blog for my wife based on Ray Camden's BlogCFC, merged with the Aura skin. The new blog is called Casa ArbaÃ’il, the name of her family's second home in a small village up in the Pyrenees of Spain, where my wife spent many summers growing up and where we continue to travel each Christmas. As a native of Barcelona, a Catalan speaker, a current resident of Massachusetts, and a chemist by profession you'll find future blog entries on these cate

Bones Festes i Bon Nadal! (December 25, 2004 6:43 PM)

This is my 4th time spending the holidays in Spain, one in Madrid and the last 3 in Barcelona, the heart of Catalonia where Spanish is the 2nd language between Catalan and English. On the departing flight with Alitalia I managed to read the entire book "Teach yourself Unix in 10 minutes a day", an introduction to SELinux, an overview of the new features in Fedora Core 3, and a tutorial on building RPMs. Not bad overall, but I've got one hell of a jet lag from not sleeping.
