Korean War Photos, 1951
This photo gallery was made from slides that my father, Gustave Erat, took in 1951-1953 while serving in the Korean War as Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps. He went through bootcamp at Parris Island, South Carolina in the summer of 1951 as part of Able Co., 1st Batallion, 5th Regiment, 1st Marine. He died in May, 1984 in Dundalk, Maryland after suffering many years with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was committed to Spring Grove Psychiatric Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Perry Point, Maryland (notice on the VA website the patients are referred to as inmates). Here's some information about the use of Scottish bagpipes in the United States military.
